‘Angels of Parmesan‘ rescue cheese in Italy
These guys are wheel heroes!
Firefighters dubbed “The Angels of Parmesan” have been called in to rescue cheese from a warehouse that collapsed following a deadly earthquake in northern Italy.
A 6.0-magnitude Earthquake, one of the worst in Italy in hundreds of years, struck the region around Bologna on May 20, 2012.
Nine days later, on May 29, the Emilia Romagna region of Italy was rocked again by a 5.8-magnitude quake.
Following the first earthquake, about 400,000 rounds of cheese were destroyed – threatening an industry key to the region’s economy.

The firemen deployed to the warehouse in Rolo are now furiously working to recover damaged Parmesan wheels.
What can be recovered of the damaged wheels is being sold at a lower price.
