Rihga Tokyo holds seasonal food fair

Through Oct. 31, the Rihga Royal Hotel Tokyo is holding its Autumn Harvest Festival, with the hotel’s restaurants, cafe, bar, lounge and gourmet boutique offering special items for the fall season.

For example, at Cafe Corbeille, a dinner buffet of a variety of dishes using seasonal products is offered on weekends (through Oct. 30) from 5 to 9 p.m. Items include a marinade of mushrooms and vegetables, saury confit, garlic sauteed whelk and mushrooms, and roast beef.

The buffet costs ¥3,900 per person, ¥1,900 per elementary school student, ¥900 per child over 3 but not yet in elementary school and ¥2,900 per person ages 65 and over. Prices include tax and a service charge.

Tower over Shibuya to see the moon

It is said that autumn is the best season to enjoy moon-watching in Japan since the relative positions of the Earth, sun and moon cause the moon to appear especially bright. Every fall, traditional tsukimi (literally, moon-viewing) events are held for Japanese people to honor the autumn moon.

The Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in the Shibuya area of Tokyo celebrates the autumn moon with a special accommodation plan for moon-watchers, through Nov. 30.

Rooms from the 25th to 32nd floors on the hotel’s south-facing side will be prepared for guests to be able to see the moon well, weather permitting. The plan comes with room service of a bottle of Champagne and hors d’oeuvres, which can also be changed to a nonalcoholic drink and sweets. The package also includes breakfast.

The plan is available at ¥42,000 for double occupancy, including tax and a service charge.

The best dates are around the time of the full moon, through Oct. 17 and from Nov. 7 to 17.
