NEWPORT NEWS — Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control agents seized 670 gallons of wine from an 82-year-old Newport News man’s home. James Edward Skinner was arrested Friday after ABC special agents received anonymous complaints pertaining to the manufacture of wine at his home, in the 900 block of 15th Street, according to authorities. Agents purchased wine on numerous occasions from Skinner who was operating a shot house. A shot house is a home where alcohol is sold illegally. AMERICAN CANYON — Custom vintner Sonoma Wine Co. is undertaking major upgrades of its south Napa Valley winemaking facility to accommodate more larger-scale clients. Dick Wimmer, whose first novel “Irish Wine” was finally published after more than 25 years of rejections, has died. He was 74. Wimmer died of heart complications on Wednesday at his home in Agoura Hills, about 20 miles west of Los Angeles, his son, Geordie, told the Los Angeles Times. Wimmer once claimed to be history’s most-rejected published novelist.
