Bread Making News

Bread

Making bread has captured the imagination of the world!

Every country in the world has its own methods of making bread. The picture above was taken by me at the October Gatronomic Fair in L’Alcudia in the provence of Valencia, Spain. Baking bread in a mobile wood fired oven a gypsy and his wife baked fresh bread 24 hours a day for the 5 days of the festival. Fresh bread was available all day every day. At 3 euros a loaf, they must have made a fortune – and a lot of bread!

The following stories come in on our RSS feeds from around the world show that bread-making is growing in popularity as people become disillusioned with so called “plastic supermarket bread”. Even the rustic style breads available commercially have come under scrutiny recently for their salt content – it seems they contain much higher levels of salt than “ordinary” bread! This is really misleading as when you choose one of these loaves you do feel you are making a healthier choice – they look so appetizing!

Every country has its own specialities, from Middle Eastern flatbreads, Indian chapattis, naans and parathas, through to Italian pizza bread and the famous French baguette!

It’s good fun to have a go at some of these yourself, and also to bake your bread in different ways – you can even use flowerpots to bake bread in!
