Chuck E. Cheese’s To Test Gluten-Free Products
MINNEAPOLIS — Chuck E. Cheese’s has added gluten-free pizza and cupcakes to its menu to accommodate guests with special dietary needs.
The family entertainment and pizza chain, operated by CEC Entertainment (Irving, TX), will test the new products at all of its Minnesota locations to gauge demand with eye to future availability nationwide.
“We’ve received an overwhelming response from families requesting that we add gluten-free products to our menu items for their kids who love to visit us but can’t enjoy a Chuck E. classic — pizza — because of special diet needs,” said Joe Elliot, Chuck E. Cheese’s vice-president of research and development.
To avoid cross contamination in Chuck E. Cheese’s kitchens, the frozen, bake-in-bag gluten-free personal cheese pizza, manufactured by Conte’s Pasta, will arrive in pre-sealed packaging. It will remain sealed while cooked and delivered and until opened and served with a personal pizza cutter at families’ tables by the adult in charge.
The gluten-free, chocolate fudge cupcakes from Fabe’s All Natural Bakery — naturally sweetened with fruits, vegetables and grains — will remain in pre-sealed, single-serve packaging through preparation and until opened and served at the table.
Chuck E. Cheese’s said it is considering introducing gluten-free birthday parties and offering other special dietary products nationwide.
