Cooking perfect paella for a date
Getting a date is hard enough. Rejection after rejection can take its toil on you, but once you have finally found that special someone who you want to introduce to your home and make a fuss of, that’s when the real problems begin.
This is an opportunity for the person to see the real you (or at least a fake version that you have carefully created to impress) and it’s an arduous, but vital, task to ensure you don’t come across as repulsive.
But what food should you cook?
Spaghetti Bolognese? Could get messy.
Burgers? Too fattening.
Fish and Chips? Boring.
Paella? Of course, paella.
This sultry Spanish delicacy is the perfect meal to accompany your seduction. It shows off your adventurous side whilst remaining quite simple to make and it doesn’t actually require much attention from yourself in the process. It’s also less arrogant than other dishes you could prepare but also consists of a wide variety of ingredients that if cooked right can cause a taste sensation of orgasmic proportions to occur in your mouth.
Yet there are also added benefits to cooking paella. As it require little attention to complete you can chat to your guest with ease while you prepare the dish and you can also pretend that these preparations need your undivided attention when any awkward moments arise, which as it’s a date, there will be plenty of.
When you’re cooking your paella there are a number are fresh ingredients which are integral to the success of your meal. Jumbo raw prawns that are still in their shells should be included as should a wide variety of other components like red pepper, chicken thighs, chorizo, pancetta, paprika, clams, calamari and squid. Shower these with white wine and calasparra, a Spanish short-grain rice, that will make your meal a delightful amalgamation of flavours and tastes.
However there are other areas you need to give careful consideration to when you are planning your dinner date. The choice of wine to compliment your meal is a decision that can cause many problems. Red wine works best with paella as the colour clashes wonderfully with the different textures and aesthetics of the dish and it’s not as sweet and overpowering a taste as either a white or rose.
To fully unleash your Latin vibe you should also implement some Spanish music into your surroundings with classical guitar or flamenco pieces, which can play as you eat. Of course you could always hire a guitarist but my guess is that he would just make it awkward. On balance, a CD would probably be better.
Once you have finished your lavish nourishment, and if you have room, you could also have a Spanish dessert for afters. This could be batch of mantecados, a traditional Spanish crumble cake which closely resembles a cookie, or a flan which is one of Spain’s most popular desserts.
