‘Dallas’ Actor Larry Hagman Fights Cancer with Vegan Diet
When eighty year-old actor Larry Hagman found out he had cancer in October, he decided what he needed was a lifestyle overhaul. To give himself the best possible chances, he switched over to an organic vegan diet, and his doctors have been thrilled with his progress.
The “Dallas” actor said about the switch, “The first thing I did when I was diagnosed was to turn vegan. Now I live on fresh vegetable drinks which taste like c**p but which I firmly believe have helped me get through this thing.”
The actor hasn’t said which kind of cancer he’s been battling, preferring to keep that information private, but is speaking up now for the first time since his diagnosis to let his fans know that he’s doing well.
The Daily Mail reports that the day Hagman found out he had cancer, he went to work on his lifestyle choices. He hired an organic chef, bought an industrial sized juicer to cleanse his body and started a strength training regiment to keep his body strong.
He said in the interview, “I have this wonderful personal chef who sources and stocks all my organic produce and I basically live on five smoothies a day. I’m totally vegan. I blend this green concoction with kale, cucumber, broccoli, string beans, avocado. My protein comes from protein powder. There is absolutely no milk, butter, cheese.” He continues, “Meat is out. When you learn about these things, you find out how meat is pumped full of steroids and human growth hormones.”
As for the future of his diet, Hagman doesn’t think he’ll stay a strict vegan. He said, “I’ve become a bit of a vegan nut but I believe it’s kept me strong. I will probably reintroduce fish and eggs in a couple of weeks but meat is gone forever, and so is milk. I don’t want those hormones and steroids in my body.”
The actor is currently filming a new version of his 80?s hit as his legendary character J.?R. Ewing, and is thankful his cancer hasn’t gotten too much in the way of his work schedule.
