Chocolate – covered anything possible at Millville candy store

Owner: Sheri Gatier, 51, of Port Norris

Employees: Family operated

Phone: 856-765-3819

We offer fine handcrafted chocolate items, along with some
unusual selections. We’ll dip anything anyone likes in chocolate,
and typically dip marshmallows, pretzels and whatever fruits people
wish to bring in.

I just whipped up a batch of chocolate-covered habanero peppers
that people tell me are great. I’m not a hot pepper fan.

Same thing happened with chocolate covered bacon. Of the seven
people who tasted it the first week, six bought it for themselves
and the seventh bought it for someone else.

We also offer a create-your-own candy bar. People can pick
ingredients from a menu and we’ll put them into a candy bar for
them.

We have hand-crafted chocolate truffles that are very, very popular. We
also make homestyle baked goods.

We have a selection of Americana and giftware, as well. I rent a
little space to someone who sells primitives — country-style
decorative items.

We also have coffee, tea and hot chocolate in a comfortable,
companionable atmosphere to sit and chat.

We have live music during the Third Fridays celebrations in
Millville.

Cindy Murphy, of Port Norris, makes our homestyle cookies,
breads and brownies, as well as the handmade truffles. We’re daily
expanding our selection of sugar-free items, trying to give people
that chocolate taste with ingredients that don’t add sugar.

We also make a lot of gluten-free candies and sometimes
something baked.

We try to keep our prices affordable. We sell by the piece but
if it were by the pound, it would probably be $10 to $12 a
pound.

Entry: I’ve been in the service industry all my
life. I used to have a luncheonette in Vineland but we lost that to
a fire 14 years ago.

Most recently I was employed in business printing. Then I was
laid off and couldn’t find another job, so I decided to take a risk
and see what I could make happen.

I’ve been making chocolate on my own for about 20 years, for
treats and gifts and such.

The future: We’re planning our own-make Easter eggs. And of
course we have lots of yummies planned for Valentine’s Day.
