LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte, Philippines — The production of dragon fruit, touted as the vine of life, got support from government following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) among various government agencies in Region 1 in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.
The MoU seals the commitments of national government agencies, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Burgos, Ilocos Norte for the massive production of dragon fruit.
A total of 65 residents from Barangay Paayas, Burgos, Ilocos Norte were initial beneficiaries of the Dragon fruit production convergence program of the Department of Labor and Employment Integrated Livelihood Program towards Community Enterprise Development Program or DILP-CEDP.
Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) Region 1 Director Henry John Jalbuena said the beneficiaries had received broad-based support for their dragon fruit production.
The said dragon fruit production program is a convergence project envisions creating more employment opportunities for residents of the barangay and in the future, its neighboring municipalities.
