If you’re looking for a tofu dog, veggie burger, or some other delicious meatless goodie to compliment a day of major league baseball, you can’t do much better than a trip to the San Francisco Giants’ ATT Park.
According to a new ranking by animal rights group PETA, the Giants have moved up one spot to overtake the Philadelphia Phillies to be the league’s most vegetarian-friendly ballpark. It’s the first time since the organization started judging baseball’s green grub four years ago that Philly has not been at the top of the heap.
“The only thing sweeter than a World Series championship is knowing that no animals had to suffer for a tasty ballpark meal,” said PETA in honoring the ballpark. “Mouthwatering meat-free options at ATT Park include veggie dogs, veggie burgers, portobello mushroom sandwiches, meatless burritos, grilled vegetable sandwiches, and noodles with ginger, sesame, and veggies.”
In second place is the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park, which the organization loves for its Southwest black-bean burgers, mock-steak sandwiches, breaded faux-chicken sandwiches, and tangy hummus with pita chips.
Rounding out the rest of the list are Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers), Turner Field (Atlanta Braves), Coors Field (Colorado Rockies) Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Oakland Athletics), PETCO Park (San Diego Padres), Angel Stadium (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros) and Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers).
It’s also worth noting that PETA is keeping tabs on minor league baseball as well — dishing up a separate top 10 list for veg-friendly ballparks in smaller cities around the U.S.
This year, Fort Myers Miracle’s Hammond Stadium is the big winner with a long list of vegan options, including “vegan chili cheese dogs, fresh fruit salad, veggie tacos, veggie spring rolls, a pepper and onion Philly with vegan cheese, fruit smoothies, hummus and pita chips, and, last but certainly not least, the Tony LaRussa Dog — a veggie burger wrapped around a veggie dog and topped with mushrooms, olives, and vegan shredded cheese.”
