Florence’s Boutique Wine Festival set for Saturday

More than 80 wines will be available for tasting at The Vineyard at Florence’s annual Boutique Wine Festival from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Aside from tasting wines from the two vineyards on site, more than 15 other wineries will also be at the event — many featuring new wines for the summer or previously unavailable wines.

The Vineyard at Florence will be releasing its Estate White Wines, which haven’t been available since August.

“We were the first winery in Williamson County to make our own wine on site,” said Shawna Platt, marketing director of the vineyard. “It’s made 100 percent from our vineyard.”

Festival events will also be held at the Inwood Estates Vineyards, where they will be featuring two reds, the Cornelious and the Cornelious Reserve.

The regular Cornelious has a brilliant red fruit character with the flavors of cherry, raspberry and strawberry and a medium tannin structure, said Rose Mary Gatlin, coproprietor of Inwood.

The reserve has dark overtones of the blackest cherries, coupled with thickly layered tannins, delivering a soft and velvety finish.

Only 106 cases were made of the reserve wine.

“There is lots to see and do at the winery, as well as tasting all the other Inwood Estates wines,” Gatlin said.

Inwood will also have Italian aged cheeses and Texas Brew Salsa for tasting. Paintings by Texas artist Anup Bhandari will be on display, as well as antique wine bottles and picking baskets from Provence, France — all to the music of a Flamenco guitarist.

Festival-goers can also enjoy jewelry booths, tours of the winery, and lunch at its cafe. As everything is indoors, the festival will happen rain or shine.

The festival is $35 a person and caps at 200 guests. A ticket includes a canvas tote bag, a wine glass and 16 tasting tickets. For information or directions, go to www.thevineyardatflorence.com.
