Barbecue honors bank’s birthday

The last public event to honor the 125th anniversary of First National Bank was held on Tuesday. At the barbecue, hotdogs and hamburgers were cooked by Rick Kolkman, bank president, and Jason Curtis, a new bank employee.

Kolkman said that some of the bank’s customers have been with them for more than six decades.

“This is an opportunity to thank the community for supporting us all these years,” Kolkman said.

All the events to honor the bank’s anniversary have been terrific, he added.

“We’ve heard great comments and stories about customers’ history with the bank,” Kolkman said. He pointed out that even the weather cooperated for Tuesday’s event.

Longtime customer Doug McIntosh has been with the bank for 25 years.

“They’re a real friendly bank,” McIntosh said.

Fellow customer Leonard Brown has been with the bank for 8 years. He praised the bank’s service.

“They give good service, they take care of you,” Brown said, adding that the First National staff are friendly and familiar with their customers.

But it was the free food that brought Brown to Tuesday’s event. He had a hotdog, and said it was good.

“I’m going to try and get some for my wife,” Brown said.
